From October 27 to 30, 2025, the city of Bonn will welcome a delegation from the National Institute for Disaster Management (NDMI) of the Republic of Korea. The visit is part of the “Making Cities Resilient 2030” (MCR2030) of the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), in which Bonn has been active as a so-called resilience hub since 2023. The aim of the exchange is to learn from each other how cities worldwide can respond to increasing risks from flooding, heavy rainfall, and heat and improve their climate adaptation.
The Korean delegation will meet with experts from the city administration to discuss Bonn’s strategies for disaster prevention and climate adaptation. This includes, in particular, the integrated climate adaptation concept recently adopted by the city council. In addition, the Bonn Sustainability Dashboard will be presented – a digital tool that makes progress in sustainability, climate resilience, and urban development transparent.
In addition to meeting with city officials, the delegation will meet with representatives of several UN organizations based in Bonn, including the UNDRR Regional Office, the United Nations University (UNU), and GWOPA/UN-Habitat. It will also participate in the Global Water Partnerships International Congress (GWOPA) at the World Conference Center Bonn.
On October 30, the group will also visit the Bonn Network, where a joint exchange with the DKKV and ICLEI will discuss concrete approaches for municipalities to further develop their resilience and self-help capabilities.
The visit will conclude with informational meetings at the Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance (BBK) and the Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW).
With this visit, Bonn is underscoring its active role as an international hub for climate adaptation, sustainability, and disaster preparedness—and strengthening the exchange between European and Asian partners in the field of urban resilience
