As the AHEAD (Advanced disaster damage and loss data information system for enHancEd impAct-baseD knowledge) project approaches the end of its activities, we are pleased to invite stakeholders to the project’s final workshop, taking place in Porto, Portugal, on 2-3 December 2026.
Over the past years, the AHEAD consortium has worked collaboratively to develop an advanced Information System (IS) for the collection, analysis, and management of post-disaster damage and loss data across Europe. Supported by the European Union through DG ECHO, the project aims to strengthen evidence-based disaster risk management by providing civil protection authorities, researchers, and practitioners with improved tools for understanding disaster impacts and supporting informed decision-making.
The closing workshop marks an important milestone and offers an opportunity to reflect on the project’s achievements, share experiences from across Europe, and discuss future perspectives for disaster damage and loss data management. Researchers, civil protection authorities, disaster risk management practitioners, and policy stakeholders will come together to explore how data-driven approaches can support resilience and disaster risk reduction efforts.
What to Expect
Participants will gain insights into:
- The AHEAD Information System: Demonstration of the platform developed to support the systematic collection, analysis, and visualization of post-disaster damage and loss data.
- Experiences from National Testbeds: Lessons learned, challenges encountered, and key findings from pilot implementations across the participating countries.
- Future Perspectives: Discussion on the long-term use, transferability, and relevance of disaster impact data for policy and practice.
