The CNRS offers a PhD thesis on the subject “Supporting coastal climate adaption using a Past-to-Future approach: application to French Pacific Islands (New Caledonia, French Polynesia)” at the research laboratory UMRi LIENSs at La Rochelle (France).
The PhD thesis will contribute to address the following research questions:
- How to think climate adaptation to support effectively coastal territories in their efforts to
reduce coastal erosion and flooding? - Which scientific methodological protocol can be deployed to assist coastal territories in the
design and implementation of effective and ambitious adaptation strategies? - Which scientific approach can help reducing maladaptation risk?
- How can the reconstruction of the trajectories of exposure and vulnerability of coastal
territories help designing effective and context-specific adaptation pathways? - How to articulate scientific (Western) and local and indigenous knowledge to promote
effective coastal adaptation strategies in post-colonial island contexts?
This PhD thesis targets a post-master’s degree student trained in social and human sciences, preferably in geography or environmental sciences at large, and having knowledge on coastal environments and climate risks, and a strong interest for interdisciplinary approaches.
Applications can be handed in via the CNRS recruitment portal.
