On October 30th, 2025, from 12:30 to 13:30 (CEST), the next session of the DRR Stammtisch Lunchtalk Series will take place. The webinar is titled Extreme Weather, Forgotten Lives: Why Animals Matter in Disaster Response.
Extreme weather events are increasing worldwide – and not only humans are affected. Animals, whether wild, farmed, or domestic, also suffer from the impacts of disasters. Yet, they are still often overlooked in disaster preparedness and crisis management. In the Lunchtalk, Charlotte Von Croy (AFPCNT) will explain why it is essential to include animals more effectively in preparedness and response planning and will present strategies for better integration. The presentation will be complemented by a contribution from the Corsican Observatory on Invertebrates, highlighting the effects of natural disasters and human activities on invertebrate species.
The Lunchtalk is organized in cooperation between the French Association for Natural Disaster Risk Reduction (AFPCNT), the Disaster Competence Network Austria (DCNA), the Swiss National Platform for Natural Hazards (PLANAT), and the German Committee for Disaster Reduction (DKKV). The aim of the series is to strengthen European exchange on disaster risk reduction, resilience, and good practices.
Participants are welcome to send in their questions in advance.
