The German Committee for Disaster Reduction (DKKV) is featured in the latest issue of the international magazine IRDR Highlights, published by the Integrated Research on Disaster Risk (IRDR) initiative, with a technical article. Under the title “Beyond the Message: Why Risk Communication Must Build a Shared Risk Culture,” the DKKV demonstrates how effective risk communication can help strengthen understanding of natural hazards and foster a shared risk culture. The article highlights that successful risk communication goes far beyond the mere transmission of information and focuses on dialogue and the active participation of various societal actors.
A particular focus is on the use of so-called “serious games,” which interactively convey complex risk situations and foster exchange between the scientific community, government agencies, and the general public. In addition, the DKKV will present the Erasmus+ project “Resilient Voices,” which advocates for inclusive disaster preparedness. As part of the project, the serious game “See. Feel. Act. – An Inclusive Game for Disaster Preparedness” was developed, which specifically aims to more fully integrate people with disabilities, older adults, and people with a migration background into risk communication and disaster preparedness.
In addition to the DKKV article, the current issue of IRDR Highlights provides an overview of international research projects and recent developments in the field of disaster risk reduction (DRR).
