In “Failing to prepare we prepare to fail” were the words of H.E. Csaba Kőrösi, President of the United Nations General Assembly on the Midterm Review of the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030.
Mid June the regional meeting was held for Europe and Central Asia. Member States are urged for action in the shape of allocating more ressources to Disaster Risk Reduction, orienting towards prevention mechanisms, and assigning responsibilities to multiple ministries, institutions and sectors. Interdependencies between water, energy, food, health, trade, the financial system, and the environment, as well as the dynamic nature of risk, the need to address unsustainable consumption and risk-blind investing were highlighted as well as the need to turn rhetoric into transformative action.
