Shortly after Super Typhoon Ragasa, Typhoon Bualoi has now caused severe damage in the Philippines and Vietnam.
The tropical storm reached the eastern province of Samar in the Philippines on the evening of 25 September with gusts of up to 165 km/h [1, 3]. At least 27 people were killed [2, 3] and more than 24,000 had to be brought to safety. Numerous schools and government offices remained closed, and ferry services were largely suspended [1, 3].
On 28 September, Bualoi finally made landfall north of the city of Vinh in the Vietnamese province of Nghe with hurricane-force winds, severe thunderstorms and heavy rain [2]. Nineteen people have died there so far [4], and more than a dozen are still missing [2, 3, 4]. Power outages occurred in parts of the country, and four airports temporarily suspended operations [2]. In total, more than 120,000 houses were damaged or destroyed, and around 50,000 trees were uprooted [4].
