Since before Christmas, emergency services have been struggling with the effects of the prolonged rainfall that caused serious flooding in some parts of Germany, particularly in central and northern Germany. With special flood-fighting equipment, the water damage/pumping teams began working with various large pumps in the affected areas at the end of December. On Tuesday, January 2, 2024, they were joined by support from France following an international request for assistance via the European Union. The colleagues from the neighboring country provided a 1.5-kilometer-long mobile flood dike to prevent further damage in Celle, Lower Saxony.
