The flood of the century on the Danube and Elbe and the attacks of September 11, 2001, destroyed the sense of security of previous years. It became apparent that Germany was inadequately prepared for crises and disasters. In order to strengthen the security of the population, the Federal Office of Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance (BBK), which is also a member of DKKV today, was founded exactly 20 years ago yesterday, on May 1, 2024.
