On the evening of September 30, 2025, the northern part of the province of Cebu was struck by a powerful earthquake measuring 6.9 on the Richter scale. The tremors were felt across large parts of the region [3].

At least 69 people have been confirmed dead, while the number of those still missing remains unclear [1]. According to the national disaster management agency, more than 140 people sustained injuries, some of them serious [1]. Rescue teams continue to operate in the disaster area, searching for survivors and providing aid to the injured [1]. In total, more than 170,000 people have been affected by the natural disaster [2].

The region has also experienced over 2,300 aftershocks [2]. Numerous buildings collapsed, roads were damaged, and power outages were reported in several areas.
