The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) has presented its new Strategic Framework for the years 2026 to 2030. The aim of the document is to significantly accelerate the implementation of the Sendai Framework in its final five years.

The new strategy focuses on four key areas of action, which were derived directly from the results of the Sendai mid-term review. They are intended to close critical gaps and strengthen global resilience. Improved risk knowledge through greater availability, quality, and use of data. Local actors, communities, and structures are to be strengthened and supported. Financing for risk reduction is to be improved, as is preparation for recovery and reconstruction processes, in order to emerge from crises more quickly and resiliently.

With the new framework, UNDRR is sending a clear signal: the next five years are crucial for ensuring progress in global disaster risk reduction and achieving the goals of the Sendai Framework.
