The 17th edition of the Union Civil Protection Knowledge Network newsletter has been published, focusing on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in civil protection.
The articles demonstrate how AI is already being used in early warning systems, risk analysis and crisis management today, for example in weather forecasting and the analysis of large volumes of data. At the same time, key challenges such as data availability, quality, and responsible use are also addressed.
Highlights include an interview with the Secretary-General of the World Meteorological Organisation about the future of AI-supported early warning systems; insights into the EU study AI in Emergency and Crisis Management; and examples of innovative applications, such as digital twins of the Earth and multilingual warning systems.
This issue thus provides a comprehensive yet concise overview of the latest developments at the intersection of digitalisation and civil protection.
