Today, on 13 October, the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction (IDDRR) is being celebrated. The day is a reminder of how crucial prevention, preparedness and joint action are in disaster control. Under this year’s motto, ‘Fund resilience, not disasters’, the UN is calling for a rethink: investment in preparedness and risk reduction must be a priority – because every euro invested saves many times more in the event of a crisis and protects lives, livelihoods and habitats.

Resilience does not arise by chance, but through forward-looking policies, effective planning and social engagement. As a national centre of expertise and network for disaster reduction, the DKKV works to pool knowledge, connect stakeholders and promote the development of resilient structures in Germany and worldwide.
