Since 1 August 2023, Prof. Dr. Sarah C. Jones has taken her place as new President of the German Weather Service (DWD). Having previously headed the Research and Development Division and been a member of the Executive Board, she thus replaced Prof. Dr. Gerhard Adrian, who was President of the DWD for 13 years.
She received her doctorate in meteorology in 1990 and worked, among other things, as a professor of meteorology and climate research at the University of Karlsruhe. In addition, she took on many networking and international tasks, among others in the Council of the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts and in the Steering Committee of the World Weather Research Programme of the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO).
