Last week, a delegation of the “RIESGOS 2.0” project visited several german organisations for civil protection and disaster management. The occasion was a visit of Alfredo Zambrano, representative of the Peruvian “Centro Nacional de Estimación, Prevención y Reducción del Riesgo de Desastres” (CENEPRED). Within the framework of the project, experts from different disciplines are working together on an information system for scenario-based multi-risk assessment in the Andean region.

From 15 to 16 June, the DKKV office welcomed the delegation in Bonn. Together with Dr. Elisabeth Schöpfer (DLR), Dr. Stefan Jäger (geomer GmbH), Harald Spahn (consultant), and Christian D. León (DIALOGIK), the delegation visited the “Bundesamt für Bevölkerungsschutz und Katastrophenhilfe” to learn about technical details of warning systems such as MoWaS and NINA.

The department for “Warning the Population” gave the delegation the opportunity to enter a warning into the test warning system – without publication, of course. It was particularly interesting that, depending on the selected alert region, the respective regional and supra-regional media are also informed directly and can thus immediately go into action as multipliers.

Afterwards, Mr. Zambrano was introduced to the DKKV and its activities at the office. The two-hour presentation and discussion and the comprehensive conversation also dealt with the general structure of German civil protection and disaster management in Germany and the flood disaster of 2021.
