The working group “Risk Communication” of the Bonn Network International Civil Protection and Disaster Risk Reduction met yesterday, 03 August, for the 2nd workshop on the topic of the same name. Melissa Schönholz and Durga Mohanakrishnan first gave an introduction to the topic and presented, among other things, methods, approaches and tools of risk communication.
This was followed by discussions in two groups. Group 1 looked at best and worst practices in risk communication, collected and evaluated examples, identified challenges and looked at the relevance of neighbourhood community for effective risk communication. Group 2 dealt with municipal risk communication and considered what concrete measures would be possible in Bonn, also under the aspect of the “Resilience Hub” status of the city of Bonn in the Making Cities Resilient network of the United Nations.
The DKKV participated in the discussions with great interest and was able to take away new ideas.
