The MYrisk flyers on disaster preparedness are now also available to the public at the German Embassy in Yangon (Myanmar). This makes important information on risks, preparedness, and how to respond in the event of a disaster even more widely accessible.
The importance of such awareness-raising and preparedness measures was once again demonstrated just recently: Three days ago, on May 18, a 5.2-magnitude earthquake shook southern Myanmar. Many people reacted with anxiety to the event. In light of this, the MYrisk flyers were additionally distributed via several large mailing lists, which has already led to an increase in download numbers on the project’s website.
The MYrisk project focuses on managing multiple risks associated with extreme events in Myanmar’s rapidly growing cities. The focus is on prevention, preparedness, and raising awareness regarding earthquakes, tropical cyclones, and floods. The DKKV is actively involved in the project’s activities and, in particular, supports the development and distribution of educational and risk communication materials for disaster preparedness.
