The first session of the DKKV at the symposium on disaster risk reduction entitled “Extreme weather events – Harnessing synergies to foster disaster preparedness through a network of networks” took place yesterday and focused on the concept of “Network of Networks”. Representatives from AFPCNT, DCNA and DKKV discussed how national platforms can be more closely networked with each other in order to share knowledge, data and best practices across borders. Current projects such as AHEAD and experiences from Germany, Austria and France were used to show how scientific networks, civil society and authorities can work together more effectively to strengthen crisis management and prevention. In view of the increasing number of extreme weather events in Europe, it is becoming increasingly clear that disaster prevention must not stop at national borders.
A key topic was the importance of trusting partnerships and open data platforms in order to create a shared knowledge base for better decisions. At the same time, it was discussed how scientific findings can be incorporated into practice in a targeted manner – for example through joint research programs or direct exchange with emergency services and political decision-makers.
The interactive exchange with the audience formed the basis for further discussions – for example on best practices in cross-border cooperation or on the question of how platforms such as DKKV, AFPCNT and DCNA can cooperate more effectively with the private sector.
As soon as the recording of the session is available, we will provide the link here.
