The DRR Stammtisch Lunchtalk is hosted by the Disaster Competence Network Austria (DCNA) in cooperation with the National Platform for Natural Hazards (PLANAT) and will be held as an online event via MS Teams. The Lunchtalk focuses on innovative monitoring strategies and recent developments in avalanche and glacier research in the context of disaster preparedness in alpine regions.

In light of climate-driven changes such as rising temperatures, thawing permafrost, and glacier retreat, the event will examine how hazard regimes are evolving and how new, unprecedented extreme events are emerging. Key topics include the implications of these changes for risk assessment, early warning, and disaster management, as well as the question of how scientific research, monitoring institutions, and public authorities can improve cooperation to ensure that new knowledge is effectively translated into decision-making processes.

The Lunchtalk features contributions from Andrea Fischer (Austrian Academy of Sciences, ÖAW) and Jan-Thomas Fischer (Austrian Research Centre for Forests, BFW), who will provide insights into current research approaches and monitoring methods in the alpine environment. The event is aimed at snow and avalanche researchers, emergency responders, mountain rescue organisations, and other stakeholders involved in disaster risk reduction and preparedness.
