The Federal Ecodesign Award 2024 honoured ten outstanding innovations in the areas of material savings and recycling processes. Over 400 submissions were assessed. Particular emphasis was placed on the theme of ‘timeless design’, which impresses with its simplicity, functionality and durability. Thonet’s coffee house chair received a special prize for this, as it is considered a role model for ecological design after more than 160 years. The competition will be announced again in 2025 and is looking for long-lasting, recyclable products and systems that contribute to sustainability. The prize has been awarded jointly by the BMUV, the UBA and the IDZ since 2012.

Further information on the prize can be found here.
