For the third time this year, we are dealing with a flood event – this time mainly in eastern Germany and neighbouring countries to the east. At the same time, the Copernicus service is reporting the hottest summer globally and for Europe since weather records began. Experts agree that there is a connection between global warming and increasing water extremes. This emphasises all the more the urgency for new adaptation and management strategies to deal with water extremes, such as those being developed as part of the BMBF’s ‘Water Extreme Events’ (WaX) funding programme.

Our ninth WaX newsletter summarises the events of the past few months. You will gain an insight into our impulse paper, which summarises the approaches to dealing with drought and low water that have emerged from WaX. October also saw the start of the Lunchtalk series, in which the WaX joint projects present selected practical research results. In the newsletter, we also provide insights into other activities, such as the publication of the fact sheets on water storage, and you can find out the latest news from some of the WaX joint projects. You will also find a link to the newly developed FloReST Smart App, which you can test directly!

You can download the newsletter here.
