The new UNDRR report “Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation: Coherence Pathways in Europe and Central Asia” examines the integration of disaster risk reduction (DRR) and climate change adaptation (CCA) across 16 countries in Europe and Central Asia. Despite numerous individual initiatives, significant gaps in policy coherence remain. The report recommends aligning DRR and climate strategies more closely by using resilience as a unifying framework and improving the coordination of planning processes. It highlights the importance of enhanced institutional coordination through joint platforms and the inclusion of relevant stakeholders, as well as technical collaboration through data sharing and joint systems for early warning or agriculture. Financial integration is also a key aspect – through risk-informed investments, joint financing mechanisms, and better use of national and international climate finance. The report offers practical guidance for more effective, integrated approaches to strengthening resilience and promoting sustainable development.
