On January 30, a thematic day against ‘Hochwasser-Demenz’ took place in Rees, organized by the Deichverband, to mark the 30th anniversary of a flood event from 1995. ‘Hochwasser-Demenz’ illustrates how quickly people forget a flood disaster, and with it, the importance of implementing flood protection measures.

A series of diverse lectures addressed key topics related to flood protection, including technical measures, ongoing dike renovations, and the challenges that complicate flood protection today. The Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW) from Emmerich was also present at the event, demonstrating a practical deployment in the event of a risk through the setup of a mobile flood protection system.
