In the “Behörden Spiegel”, the article “Aufbau, Anforderungen und Aufgaben des neuen LfBK” (engl.: “Structure, Requirements and Tasks of the new LfBK”) sheds light on the founding and tasks of the new State Office for Fire and Disaster Protection (ger.: “Landesamtes für Brand- und Katastrophenschutz LfBK“) in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. In the interview, René Schubert, the first president of the LfBK, explains the structure and goals of the authority. The LfBK was established on January 1, 2025, and unites the previous tasks of the Fire and Disaster Protection Academy (ger.: “Feuerwehr- und Katastrophenschutzakademie LFKA“) as well as of Department 22 of the ADD. A central element is the Civil Protection Situation Center (ger.: “Lagezentrum Bevölkerungsschutz“), which is the first of its kind in a territorial state to be staffed around the clock and provides a quick basis for action and decision-making in case of an incident. In addition, three regional offices are being set up to intensify contact with the municipalities. The authority is pursuing a comprehensive development plan, which is expected to grow to around 300 positions by 2030. The article emphasizes that the Ahr disaster gave a decisive impetus to the reorientation of disaster protection in Rhineland-Palatinate. Schubert emphasizes the importance of continuous further development and adaptation of structures to new insights and challenges.
