The UN has been organising the COP since 1995, this year in Baku, Azerbaijan. The motto of this year’s COP is ‘In Solidarity for a Green World’. However, the fact that the COP has been taking place for over 25 years and still has to have similar mottos is strongly criticised by critics such as Prof. Ilan Kelman. In his text ‘Last Chance Climate Change COP (Again)’, he writes that mottos such as ‘last chance’ or ‘saving the planet’ suggest that climate change can be stopped if action is taken quickly. However, as this narrative is a given from the outset, the COP, according to Kelman, plays into the hands of people who use it to wind up climate activists and deny man-made climate change.
