The online game “Stop Disasters”, developed by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), is designed to teach players how to build safer communities against natural hazards. The game simulates five disaster scenarios in which players must take strategic actions such as choosing the right location, using appropriate building materials and creating early warning systems to protect lives. By playing, users understand how well-prepared cities and villages can minimize disaster risks and reduce damage. This initiative is in line with the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, which emphasizes the integration of disaster risk knowledge into education at all levels. The game, which is suitable for both children aged 9 to 16 and higher education institutions, was first released in 2007 and updated in 2019 and 2024 to remain relevant. The game is now available in German and other languages.
