Today, June 16, 2025, the meeting of the Subsidiary Bodies (SB 62) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) has started in Bonn, which will take place until June 26, 2025. The meetings of the Subsidiary Bodies, the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA) and the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI), serve to prepare the content and technical aspects of the 30th Conference of the Parties (COP 30), which will take place in Belém, Brazil, in November 2025.
Today’s negotiations focused on the current status of the global stocktake process and possible conclusions that can be drawn from it for the further implementation of the Paris Agreement. In addition, progress on international climate finance was discussed, particularly with regard to support for adaptation measures and the specific design of the Loss and Damage Fund.
Another focus was on the question of how non-state actors – including civil society organizations, cities, companies and indigenous groups – can be more closely involved in the implementation of global climate goals in the future.
Today’s meeting marks an important intermediate step on the road to COP 30 and highlights the importance of a transparent, science-based and inclusive multilateral process in the global climate agreement.
