Water is one of the most precious and at the same time most conflict-prone resources of our time. Its essential importance for life and the transboundary nature of many water sources – such as rivers and aquifers – make cooperative management indispensable. Challenges such as climate change, unequal availability, demographic change, urbanization and institutional weaknesses are increasingly leading to tensions. The Potsdam Africa Talks 2025 are dedicated to the geopolitical, ecological and social dimensions of transboundary water resources on the African continent. The focus is on the question of how water diplomacy can be used as an instrument for conflict prevention and the promotion of sustainable development. The Potsdam Africa Talks 2025 will take place on June 26 and 27 at the Mercure Hotel Potsdam City.
