In a new policy brief published on Prevention Web, the focus is on increasing the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to better identify and manage disaster risks. The aim is to strengthen prevention, preparedness and resilience within the EU – in line with the Preparedness Union Strategy. Specifically, the Joint Research Center (JRC) works on new AI solutions for EU policy, monitors current developments in disaster prevention (via the Disaster Risk Management Knowledge Centre) and is involved in global initiatives, for example as co-leader of the UN initiative “Global Initiative on Resilience to Natural Hazards with AI”. With the help of AI, risk analyses are to be improved, early warning systems expanded and information evaluated more quickly, among other things. In this way, the EU wants to be able to react even faster and more effectively to natural disasters in the future.
