Last week, the 78th United Nations General Assembly opened in New York, with the importance of international cooperation taking centre stage. In his inaugural address, the new President of the General Assembly, Dennis Francis, emphasised the need to strengthen multilateralism in order to tackle global challenges such as peace, climate change and social justice. UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed called on the member states to find joint solutions for a sustainable and peaceful future. A key event was the UN Future Summit 2024, at which a ‘Pact for the Future’ was adopted. The head of the UNU Xiaomeng Shen also gave a speech during the plenary day and the closing ceremony of the UN Future Summit 2024.
