The results of the Malteser Volunteer Monitor on the topic of “Civil defence and self-protection: Is Germany ready for a crisis?” show that the feeling of safety in Germany has fallen significantly over the last five years, partly due to increasing concerns about crises and disasters. 78% of those surveyed agree that everyone should take personal precautions, but the willingness to volunteer in civil defence remains low. Although the need to protect oneself and others has increased, around half of the citizens surveyed feel insufficiently informed about the correct behaviour in the event of a crisis or disaster.

On our topic pages you will find information on natural hazards and other crises as well as recommendations for action and further links.

The Volunteering Monitor takes the pulse of society when it comes to volunteering. Three times a year, the YouGov survey institute is commissioned by Malteser International to conduct short representative surveys to determine the population’s views on important social issues relating to volunteering.
