Technical problems occurred during the most recent Bavaria-wide warning day. In the districts of Coburg, Lichtenfels and Kronach, the all-clear sirens did not work correctly – they continued to wail until they were switched off manually. According to the Bavarian Red Cross, the cause was incorrect programming of the control units, which has now been rectified.
The KATWARN warning app also failed to trigger in many parts of Bavaria. The Federal Office of Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance is investigating the incident. Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann nevertheless drew a positive conclusion: the test alarm was successful overall and the population could be reliably warned in the event of an emergency. He is hoping for federal funding to improve the siren infrastructure.
