On April 28, 2025, a large-scale power outage occurred on the Iberian Peninsula, the causes of which are still being investigated. Initial assumptions assume that a high solar feed-in and a low instantaneous reserve could have contributed to the instability of the system, but this has yet to be definitively clarified. Some experts see the incident as an indication of the fragility of complex, highly interconnected infrastructure systems, which may have reached their limits. As a result, the need for greater preparation for such events and improved crisis preparedness at a societal and state level is once again being discussed. However, a conclusive assessment of the underlying systemic problems and the necessary measures remains uncertain and requires further detailed analysis. (As at: 12.05.2025)
