Red Cross nurses from the DRK sisterhoods ‘Bonn’ e.V. and ‘Württemberg’ e.V. were honoured by Federal Minister of the Interior Nancy Faeser with the ‘Flood Relief 2021’ medal for their efforts during the flood disaster in the Ahr valley. This honour recognises their self-sacrificing help in saving lives and repairing damage. The deployment in the Ahr valley led to the establishment of the ‘Nursing in Civil Protection’ competence centre, which trains nursing staff specifically for disaster situations. A research project on training in disaster nursing is also being developed as part of the centre. The Red Cross nurses thus emphasise their special role in civil protection.
