The Hanseatische Feuerwehr-Unfallkasse Nord (HFUK Nord), together with the Institute for Work and Health of the German Social Accident Insurance (IAG), launched the nationwide online survey “SiGeFEx” on March 24, 2025. This survey looks at the safety and health measures taken by fire departments when dealing with extreme weather events. Increasing extreme weather events pose major challenges for fire departments and have a direct impact on the working conditions and health of the emergency services.
The survey is intended to provide insights into which weather events fire departments are increasingly confronted with and what measures they are taking to prepare for them. All fire department managers and emergency personnel are invited to take part in the survey. The survey is anonymous, takes about 15 minutes and will run until the end of May 2025. You can find the survey here.
The data collected will be analyzed after the survey is completed in order to develop needs-based prevention measures. The focus will be on “sharpening risk awareness” and the “human factor”. Through this initiative, HFUK Nord aims to contribute to the sustainable improvement of the safety and health protection of firefighters.
