The year 2024 was characterised by extreme weather events – from the Christmas floods to the devastating heavy rainfall events in southern Germany. Globally, 2024 is also expected to be one of the warmest years since measurements began. These developments are further focussing attribution research, which has been the subject of a DKKV topic page for some time now.

Visit the DKKV climate change and attribution research topic page here.

The latest issue of the German Weather Service newsletter presents current results from national and European attribution research. The analysis of heavy precipitation in southern Germany and the heavy rainfall event in south-east Europe are discussed and the further developments in the BMBF project ClimXtreme are highlighted.
