In emergencies, every second counts for patients with serious injuries or life-threatening illnesses. Efficiency plays an important role here and rescue can be carried out particularly quickly by air. In 2023, DRF Luftrettung was involved in a total of 36,000 missions – heart attacks, strokes and accidents were among the most common causes. There were also 8,000 intensive care transports and 365 repatriations.
In order to adapt air rescue to the structural changes in the healthcare sector and improve the system, the DRF is proposing a number of short-term but effective measures. These include improving the coordination of individual rescue teams and reducing bureaucratic obstacles.
