A delegation from the Jinfong community in the southern part of Taiwan is currently on an information tour of Germany. The aim of the visit is to exchange ideas with various stakeholders to strengthen resilience and promote sustainable development. In this context, a delegation meeting took place yesterday.
The DKKV was invited yesterday by its office neighbor and cooperation partner ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability to participate in this exchange in order to present the organization and its activities.
The community of Jinfong is regularly affected by natural hazards such as floods and landslides. One of the central bridges in the region has already had to be rebuilt three times in the past ten years. Against this backdrop, the “Build Back Better” concept was discussed intensively.
Jinfong is also an indigenous community. Traditional knowledge in dealing with natural hazards plays an important role there, but has hardly been incorporated into modern risk management strategies in recent years. The discussion focused on the extent to which this knowledge should be systematically recorded and made accessible to a wider public.
It was an exciting meeting with the delegation and follow-up meetings are planned. Until then, we will enjoy the quinoa and seaweed bars in the office, which were given to us by the Jinfong Community.
