At COP29, over 800 meetings will deal with many topics relating to climate change. DKKV introduces you to the most important topics!
Climate change disproportionately affects vulnerable populations, especially women, who face greater risks due to poverty and limited resources. Women’s lack of involvement in decision-making and labor markets hinders their ability to contribute to climate action. However, women play a vital role in climate response through local knowledge and leadership in sustainable practices. Their inclusion in decision-making improves the effectiveness of climate policies and projects. The UNFCCC recognizes the need for gender equality in climate processes, emphasizing equal participation in the development of gender-responsive climate policies, as highlighted in the Paris Agreement.
The global stocktake is a crucial moment in the fight against climate change, allowing for a comprehensive review of progress towards the goals of the Paris Agreement. It occurs periodically to assess collective efforts and identify areas where progress is being made or where gaps remain. This process helps countries and stakeholders evaluate climate action and support, and work together to find solutions for safeguarding the future. The first global stocktake took place in 2023, concluding at COP28 in Dubai, with subsequent stocktakes scheduled every five years. Decision 19/CMA.1 outlines the procedures for these evaluations.
