For the Congress of the Austrian Sociological Association (ÖGS): “Critical Times” from 3rd to 5th July 2023 in Vienna, the Disaster Competence Network Austria is organising an Ad-Hoc Group on the topic of “Disaster Management in a Disaster” and is looking for papers dealing with the transformation and reproduction of structures in disaster management, e.g. from the perspective of resilience research.
The call is aimed at theoretical-conceptual and empirical papers on the following questions:
- How can classical theoretical approaches be used to understand the transformation or resilience of disaster-relevant organisations?
- How do the structures of organisations relevant to disaster management (e.g. BOS) change? and networks (e.g. SKKM, deployment network) in disasters? How are new types of organisational structures and forms (e.g. emergent groups, intermediary organisations)? taken into account? When will their permanent institutionalisation take place?
- How do communication and practices change along the disaster management cycle (prevention, preparedness, response, recovery) by disasters? What is the value of improvisation and innovation?
- How do disasters (temporary, permanent) affect the legitimacy of disaster management?
Proposals for papers (max. 2,400 characters, including spaces) in German or English can be sent to Sandra Pfister (sandra.pfister@dcna.at) and René Kastner (rene.kastner@dcna.at) by 23 April 2023.
