The publication “Hydromorphological profiles of German watercourse types”, published in April 2025, was written by Tanja Pottgiesser, Stephan Naumann and Andreas Müller on behalf of the Federal Environment Agency.
It describes the hydromorphological conditions that are characteristic of various ecological states of German watercourses. These conditions are presented in the form of texts, photos, tabular parameters on watercourse structure, continuity and water balance as well as habitat sketches for each type of watercourse. The descriptions are based on water body structural orientation values that enable good ecological status to be achieved. The work thus serves as an important planning tool for the renaturation and ecological improvement of watercourses in Germany.
