The eighth issue of the Disasters Avoided Newsletter was published in May and is dedicated to the role of cities and municipalities in disaster risk reduction. It contains interviews with experts from the fields of urban planning, risk reduction and disaster management as well as analyses on the assessment of urban risks. This is supplemented by our own perspectives, current research and global examples of risk reduction in urban areas. Special attention is paid to the 8th session of the UNDRR Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (GP2025), which took place from June 2-6, 2025. Strategies, experiences and innovations for disaster risk reduction were exchanged and further developed there.
There is also a video of an interview with Terry Gibson, in which he talks about his research, which sheds light on how disasters occur and what we can learn from them to prevent them in the future.
