FlashFloodBreaker is an EU-funded project (2024-2028) that develops strategies, early warning systems and training programs to prepare for extreme flash floods in seven particularly vulnerable regions of Northwest Europe. DKKV has been active as a associated partner since January 2024 and supports the transfer of knowledge, networking and dissemination of the project results.
Recently, a blog on the project’s fourth partner meeting on April 1, 2025 in Hasselt (Belgium) was published on the FlashFloodBreaker website. The aim of the meeting was to exchange ideas on better strategies for dealing with extreme flash floods. Workshops dealt with topics such as early warning systems, transnational training programs and the use of AI for damage forecasting. Practical exercises such as handling sandbags and the involvement of civil society were also a focus. The meeting promoted the development of common standards and strengthened transnational cooperation.
