On April 1, 2025, the German Weather Service (DWD) presented alarming results at its climate press conference regarding the accelerated warming in Germany. Since the 1960s, each decade has been warmer than the previous one, and the ten warmest years since measurements began have occurred in the last 25 years. Particularly concerning was 2024, which, with an average temperature of 10.9°C, was the warmest year on record. At the same time, 2024 was also an extremely wet year, with many regions experiencing above-average rainfall and repeated heavy rain events. This accelerated warming is already causing serious consequences, such as more frequent heatwaves, extreme weather events, and an increasing threat to biodiversity. The DWD also introduced a new climate trendline that better represents the rapid temperature rise, showing that Germany has already warmed by 2.5°C since the pre-industrial era.
