The continuous rain of the past few days and weeks has caused flooding in large parts of Germany. The Rhine is now also rising sharply and flooding large parts of the banks in Bonn, among other places. The water level rose by 1.67 meters within 24 hours between 9 a.m. on 3 and 4 January. According to the Rhineland-Palatinate Flood Control Center, the water level in Bonn will peak at 7.69 meters on Friday evening, 5 January at around 7 pm. Two days before, on 3 January in the morning the Bonn water level stood at 5,36 Meter. This level corresponds to an average flood (from 7.40 meters). Due to the high water, large parts of the riverbank area are and will be flooded. It will be largely impossible for pedestrians and cyclists to move along the riverbank due to the water. The city of Bonn will close off the relevant areas or put up warning signs.
