Online Courses
Here you will find a selection of freely accessible online courses on topics such as disaster risk reduction, resilience, climate adaptation and humanitarian aid. Most courses can be completed through self-study and some conclude with a certificate.
MOOC-Platforms
Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) are freely accessible online courses that usually consist of video units, assignments and quiz formats. They enable participants to acquire knowledge independently of time and location and are often offered by universities or international organizations. Below we present three different MOOC platforms:
Coursera
Coursera is an international platform founded by two professors from Stanford University. The platform does not create its own courses but manages and streams content that it receives in cooperation with various universities. Participation in the more than 600 courses is free of charge; however, an official certificate requires a fee.

The platform iversity offers MOOCs from various academic fields. In addition to introductory courses in business administration, marketing or the natural sciences, courses are also offered in medicine and computer science. The courses are free and openly accessible; however, prior knowledge may be beneficial for some courses. Upon completion, participants can receive a certificate of participation or a certificate if they have viewed and completed 80 percent of the course material. A fee may apply for on-site examinations.

Internships
INTERNSHIP AT THE FEDERAL OFFICE OF CIVIL PROTECTION AND DISASTER ASSISTANCE (BBK)
Students have the opportunity to complete an internship or practical semester at the BBK. The aim is to deepen theoretically acquired knowledge with the help of practical experience. Preference is given to courses of study with a clear connection to civil protection. Further information on internships can be found here.
INTERNSHIP WITH THE FEDERAL AGENCY FOR TECHNICAL RELIEF (THW)
In addition to internships for pupils, THW also offers internships for students for six weeks to a maximum of six months. These can complete an internship at the THW headquarters (Bonn), a THW regional association or a THW regional office. In addition, it is possible to complete an internship for writing a Bachelor’s, Master’s or diploma thesis. For this, the internship must be prescribed in the study or examination regulations. INTERNSHIP AT THE GERMAN WEATHER SERVICE (DWD)
The DWD offers students from various disciplines the opportunity to complete compulsory internships. The locations depend on your major field of study and the business area you wish to work in. It is also possible to complete the internship part-time. Further details can be found on the website
INTERNSHIP AT THE DEUTSCHE GESELLSCHAFT FÜR INTERNATIONALE ZUSAMMENARBEIT GMBH (GIZ)
At GIZ, there is the possibility of an internship at the various locations as well as the regional offices in Germany and abroad. The aim of the internship is to get to know the work of GIZ and development cooperation at home or abroad. The focus of the work may vary depending on the location and the field of expertise.
INTERNSHIP AT THE GERMAN RESEARCH CENTRE FOR GEOSCIENCES (GFZ)

Pupils, school leavers and students have the opportunity to gain professional orientation at the UFZ. Internships are possible in the fields of research, administration and service. INTERNSHIP AT STADTENTWÄSSERUNGSBETRIEBEN KÖLN, AÖR, (STEB)
Pupils, school leavers or students have the opportunity to orientate themselves professionally at the UFZ. Internships are possible in the fields of research, administration and service. INTERNSHIP AT THE UNITED NATIONS UNIVERSITY INSTITUTE FOR ENVIRONMENT AND HUMAN SECURITY (UNU-EHS)
Interested students can complete an internship at UNU-EHS and UNU-ViE. The aim is for students to put what they have learned into practice and develop new skills and knowledge during their internship. There is a thematic focus on practical training, counselling, networking and multicultural cooperation. The vacancies are published on the homepage.
INTERNSHIPS AT THE FEDERAL ENVIRONMENT AGENCY (UBA)
Students and trainees have the opportunity to do an internship at the Federal Environment Agency. Places are available for internships in a wide variety of areas at UBA, including scientific departments, administration, press relations and environmental information. The placement options depend on the focus of your studies as well as the projects and capacities of the Federal Environment Agency.
