“Mapping Resilience for the Sustainable Development Goals” is the topic of the Special Report of the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction. The UN Global Assessment Report on Disaster Risk Reduction (GAR 2023) highlights how resilience can be strengthened to withstand and respond to shocks.

The report looks at the climate polycrisis with the intent to set resilience at the foundation to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It finds that the SDGs can be a useful tool to identify resilience deficits and that, on the other hand, without urgent action building resilience and curtailing greenhouse and gas emissions, sustainable development will significantly be constrained.

The effects of the identified resilience deficits on the different SDGs are shown in differentiated maps, as in the picture.
