How can true resilience be achieved if not everyone is included in the planning process? The upcoming webinar hosted by the International Consortium for Societal Resilience (i-NCSR+) addresses precisely this question and focuses on Disability-Inclusive Disaster Risk Reduction (DIDRR).

Disasters affect people differently – and for people with disabilities, the risks are often greater when emergency planning and communication are designed according to a “one-size-fits-all” approach. This is where DIDRR comes in: it recognizes the diversity, needs, and skills of people with disabilities and demands that they be actively involved in the development of strategies. “Nothing about us, without us” thus becomes a central principle of effective and equitable disaster preparedness.

The webinar highlights how inclusive approaches across the entire disaster management cycle strengthen the resilience of communities, achieve better results, and create more equitable structures in the long term.

Ike Nwanze, Lecturer in the Division of Disability Studies at the University of Cape Town (South Africa), will lead the session and provide insights into what inclusive resilience really means.
