Yesterday, on July 10, the final event of AMAREX (Adaptation of Stormwater Management to Extreme Events) took place in Cologne. At the beginning, the project was introduced and the results and findings of the fields of action were presented.
The BMFTR project AMAREX has developed a digital planning tool for rainwater management with Berlin and Cologne. It helps to implement measures such as green roofs or infiltration troughs in a targeted manner. It is supplemented by maps and analyses that take technical, ecological and social aspects into account. The result is climate-resilient urban planning that networks various stakeholders.
Benni Thiebes from DKKV also gave an impulse to the WaX (Water Extreme Events) funding measure and presented the results and findings on dealing with heavy rainfall and drought. Extreme water events are becoming more and more frequent, which is why precautionary measures and raising awareness are essential. An excerpt from the film “Water extremes in Germany” was then shown.
The AMAREX fields of action (rainwater management systems, water balance planning and socio-economic assessment) were presented as part of an exhibition with interactive stations to encourage discussion, feedback and exchange.
Finally, three workshops were offered to stimulate more detailed discussions. These workshops included the testing of tools, the possible applications of the research results and a discussion on challenges for municipalities and companies.
Further information can be found on the AMAREX website and on the DKKV website for the WaX funding measure.
