Rescue and search operations continue in Texas after the devastating floods that killed over 80 people and left many still missing. Kerr County is particularly affected, where a summer camp with 750 girls was caught in the floods. [1]

Over 1,000 emergency personnel, including the National Guard and Coast Guard, are in constant action, while helicopters are rescuing people from trees and rooftops. The disaster was caused by an unusual weather system with extreme rainfall, the intensity of which was further intensified by climate change. At the same time, inadequate warning systems and inaccurate forecasts, exacerbated by budget cuts and a lack of climate protection measures, reveal structural deficits in disaster prevention. Experts emphasize that only by consistently adapting to climate change and investing in modern early warning systems can similar tragedies be prevented in the future[2, 3].
